The Miamisburg City School District September Student of the Month is Jane Chance Elementary School fifth grade student Jack Pinto. He was nominated by the JCE fourth and fifth grade teachers. They said "Jack Pinto has made a wonderful first impression during the first week of fifth grade at JCE. He has demonstrated polite manners, participated in all his classes, and accepted and followed all the new safety protocol with a positive attitude. It is clear that he is ready and wants to be back at school. Even though we've only known Jack for a week, we remember him from previous grades because he is a student who smiles at the staff and greets them appropriately. When we asked his fourth grade teachers about him, their feedback was overwhelmingly glowing. They noted how thoughtful he was as a citizen of JCE towards all others, but he was also a thoughtful student with his academics and class performances. In the spring when JCE shut our doors, Jack was at the forefront of his class helping his teachers get everyone organized to leave, and when they had remote lessons, Jack posted positive class messages on Google Classroom to inspire other learners. Jack was described by one previous teacher as a "fantastic leader," "a rock star," and a "genuine spirit who embraces his feelings, shares his heart, and gives kindness freely." Jack is a role model not only as a student of JCE but as a citizen of the world. Keep up the amazing efforts, Jack, and congratulations for this recognition."

A recent financial audit of the Miamisburg City School District (Montgomery County) by Auditor of State Keith Faber’s office has returned a clean audit report. The district’s excellent record keeping has qualified it for the Auditor of State Award with Distinction. Ohio Auditor of State representative Joseph Braden traveled to Miamisburg today to present Treasurer/CFO Tina Hageman with the certificate.
“To earn the Award with Distinction takes hard work and a committed fiscal team,” Auditor Faber said. “Communities should be proud that stewards of tax dollars put in the extra effort to maintain clean records.”
The Auditor of State Award with Distinction is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report.
- The entity must file financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office by the statutory due date, without extension, via the Hinkle System, on a GAAP accounting basis and prepare a CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report);
- The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) findings or questioned costs;
- The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:
- Ethics referrals
- Questioned costs less than the threshold per the Uniform Guidance
- Lack of timely annual financial report submission
- Bank reconciliation issues
- Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit in accordance with Uniform Guidance
- Findings for recovery less than $500
- Public meetings or public records issues
- The entity has no other financial or other concerns.
Congratulations to Treasurer/CFO Tina Hageman and her staff - Marilyn Cooper, Pam Bell, Nicole Funderburg and Holly Horlacher!

When a person hears the words,” you have cancer”, it can be devastating and certainly be a life-changing feeling. Miamisburg Middle School teacher, Jen Peterman, learned she was diagnosed with breast cancer while at school in the middle of teaching her eighth grade class. When she told her colleagues her diagnosis, she didn’t have that devastated feeling at all. Jen said "Every single teacher at that school had my back, continues to and will forever. I cannot believe the cards, meals, gift cards, thoughts and prayers that these people have provided for my family and I over the last several months. They are the most amazing group of people and I cannot ever thank them enough. Not only do they go above and beyond for the students that they care for so much, but the staff at Miamisburg Middle School take care of each other, inside and outside of the classrooms. We are not only colleagues but we are friends and a family that is unique to others. I am very grateful and I forever will be for this group of people and I can’t thank them enough for everything that they have done. I’m happy that I have the opportunity to express this in a public way, they deserve this recognition. I thank them from the bottom of my heart and love them all dearly."
