Scholarships

Senior students have the opportunity to compete for over $34,000 in local scholarships during the spring of their senior year. These scholarships are made possible through donations from benefactors from Miamisburg, Miamisburg Schools Education Foundation, the Dayton Area, and the Dayton Foundation. All senior students will be given a packet of information on the scholarships available during senior meetings. If you have any questions on a specific scholarship, please contact your child’s counselor. 

Review the scholarships offered below to see if you meet the criteria to apply. Click on the scholarship link to fill out the application. Read the Scholarship Criteria and the Application Process carefully to make sure you have completed everything required, print 2 copies and turn them in along with your transcript to the MHS Guidance Office.

Viking Athletic Booster Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Must have participated in a varsity sport in both the junior and senior year






 

 

Miamisburg Basketball Intramural League Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
  with two (2) years minimum of participation in the MBIL

Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale
Be accepted at an accredited two or four-year college or university
Must have a current letter of recommendation from a high school teacher
Must have a brief statement (250-500 words) of how sportsmanship/leadership influenced them positively, and how they demonstrated this throughout their MBIL seasons

 

Bear School PTO Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Be accepted at an accredited two or four-year college or university

Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 based on a 4.0 scale
Minimum test scores of either 18 on the ACT or 1100 on the SAT
Demonstrate financial need (MUST have a copy of the letter and summary page from the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA))

Be a graduating student/athlete of Miamisburg High School who is involved in extra-curricular activities or be a working student
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 based on a 4.0 scale

Must have a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or employer





 

 

Ray Cluxton Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School planning to major in the field of business or finance
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Minimum of 25 hours of community service (verified)
Be accepted at an accredited two or four-year college or university
Must have a current letter of recommendation from a high school teacher/community leader
Must have a brief statement (250-500 words) of why you qualify for this scholarship and how important it is to have integrity and ethics along with serving the community in business
Must have verification of community service hours

College Prep Challenge Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Must have been enrolled in a demanding curriculum through senior year








 

Ruth Conner Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School 
Student must exemplify the characteristics of integrity and academic excellence.

Have a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Joe DiMatteo Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Eligible students will exhibit academic, athletic and leadership ability 
Planning a career in athletics including being a coach or physical education teacher

Connie Doty Nursing Scholarship

Be a graduating student/athlete of Miamisburg High School who has been accepted into an accredited two or four-year nursing program
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Fulfill 25 hours of community service in senior year of high school (must have confirmation)
Must have two (2) letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from a community leader, minister, volunteer coordinator, employer, etc.
Written essay about why you chose nursing

Todd Doty Memorial Golf Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale
Member of the MHS Golf Team (male or female)
Accepted for admission at a two or four-year accredited college or university
Exhibit leadership qualities (must have a list of leadership positions and accomplishments in those positions)

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School planning to major in the field of education
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale

Athletic Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School

Alex Holtzman Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Participated in a Mathematics Honors Program at MHS for a two-year period
Plan to attend a two-year or four-year college or university, or technical school on a part-time or full-time basis
Participated in the Miamisburg City Youth Baseball/Softball Association
Demonstrate service through community or church activities
Must provide two (2) letters of recommendation, one from a Miamisburg High School mathematics teacher that addresses the student’s involvement in this discipline and one from a member of the Miamisburg community that details the student’s community/church service

Christopher Howard Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited two- or four-year college or university

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Must be a lifelong learner
Plan to attend a two-year or four-year college or university as a full-time student
Must have completed a minimum of: 4 years of Math, 4 years of English, 4 years of Social Studies, 4 years of Science, 2 years of Music, 2 years of Foreign Language
Must have participated in or taken at least one class in Art or Theater
Must have two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers addressing what the student has done to show that he or she enjoys learning. Please give specific examples.

Jim O'Donnel Wrestling Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Be a member of the Miamisburg High School Wrestling Team
Exhibit character, pride, hard work and drive for success








 

Helen Reed Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School who has been a student in Miamisburg City Schools for at least eight (8) years (MUST have verification)
Community involvement in school and community activities (MUST provide a list of community and school activities)
Demonstrate financial need (MUST have a copy of the letter and summary page from the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School who participated in a Miamisburg Tech Prep Program

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School who

Must have earned five (5) career varsity letters, one team sport and one individual sport during the senior year

Dr. Ray Terrell Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Active participation in activities and organizations that are directly related to supporting or developing diversity in Miamisburg Schools and or the community
Demonstrate good citizenship
Demonstrate financial need (MUST have a copy of the letter and summary page from the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA))
MUST have a personal statement highlighting your involvement in diversity
MUST have three (3) letters of recommendation – two from school personnel and one from a community leader

Bill Toadvine Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School who has lettered in baseball for at least two years
Demonstrate a positive attitude on and off the field
Be respected by teammates and others
Exemplify good citizenship and demonstrate leadership qualities


 

Vocational Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Planning to attend a trade or vocational school



 

Joanna Weglage Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School and a member of the clarinet section of the Marching Band or member of the Winter Guard
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Demonstrate commitment, dedication and enthusiasm to the Marching Band/Winter Guard programs

Lisa Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School 
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
Must have participated in cheerleading or student government for MHS
Exhibit a spirit of enthusiasm and leadership skills
MUST provide a letter of recommendation from the Cheerleading or Student Government Advisor
MUST provide a list of leadership positions and accomplishments

Swimming Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale
Minimum three years of participation on the swim team, must swim as a senior
Must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

 

 

 

Dave Wood Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School planning to be a commuting student at Miami University or Wright State University or University of Dayton
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale
Minimum test scores of either 18 on the ACT or 1100 on the SAT
Demonstrate financial need (MUST have a copy of the letter and summary page from the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA))

Miamisburg Class of 1962 Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Miamisburg High School 
Have a grade point average between 2.5 and 3.5 based on a 4.0 scale
Demonstrate financial need
Exhibit a spirit of enthusiasm and leadership skills
Preference will be given to active duty military families
Plan to attend a two- or four-year college or university

   
     

American Legion-Miamisburg Post 165 Award-

A scholarship for a MHS senior pursuing a career in political science, social studies education, public service, or administration.  Must have a seven semester GPA of at least 2.5.  A separate application is required for this scholarship and is available in the Guidance Department.

Billy Stevens-Big Brother Memorial Award

This scholarship will be awarded to a MHS football player.  Special consideration will be given to students that are living in a “single parent” household, foster home, adopted, or someone that lives with grandparents.  Must be accepted by a post-secondary institution.
 

Easterling Studios Award

A scholarship will be awarded to a MHS graduating senior majoring in Graphic Design, Journalism, or any art field. 



 

Epsilon Nu Chapter-Sigma Phi Gamma

A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating MHS senior planning to attend college or technical school, cosmetology, business or art school.  Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

 


AVAILABLE IN 2013

Heidelberg University/Hieronymus Annual Scholarship

A scholarship will be given to a student graduating from MHS and has been accepted and will be attending Heidelberg University.  Recipient must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA and provide proof of financial need with SAR.

Jeff Cash Memorial Award

A scholarship will be presented in memory of Jeff Cash (former student at MHS) to a MHS senior who has had 4 terms of high school college-prep math and a 2.5 average or above in math courses.  The student must be majoring in math education or a math field.

Kinder School PTO Awards

Scholarships will be presented to MHS students who formerly attended Kinder Elementary School and plan to continue their education after graduation.  A separate application, available in Guidance, must be used for this scholarship.
 

Kingdom Athletic Award

A scholarship will be awarded to one male & one female MHS athlete, participating in any sport.  Students must demonstrate leadership, good citizenship and good moral character both on & off the playing field.  Qualities of hard work and coachability will be major factors in determining recipients.

Larry O’Neil Award

A scholarship will be awarded to a MHS senior planning to attend a 4-year college.  Must demonstrate academic achievement, community/school involvement, and financial need.  A separate application is required for this scholarship and is available in the Guidance Office.

Mark Twain PTO

Scholarships will be presented to selected MHS senior students who formerly attended Mark Twain Elementary School.  Applicants must be accepted at an institute of higher education.




 

Medlar View PTO Award

This scholarship will be awarded to a MHS student who formerly attended Medlar View Elementary School and plans to continue their education.





 

Merle Williams Memorial/Lions Club Award

A scholarship will be awarded in memory of Merle Williams to a MHS senior majoring in music.  Recipient must be involved in community service or active in a church.  Minimum GPA of 2.5.  Applicants must have been involved in the music program at MHS a minimum of 2 years and have a letter of recommendation from someone in the high school music program.  Must provide a letter of acceptance from a college.

Miamisburg Civic Youth Baseball/Softball

Association Award – These scholarships are sponsored by MCYBSA.  Each applicant must be accepted at a school of higher learning and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Students must have played four years (excluding ragball) in the MCYBSA. A separate application is required for this scholarship and is available in the Guidance Department.


 

Miamisburg Classroom Teacher Association

A scholarship will be given to a MHS senior in the upper 25% of their class, demonstrates financial need, and has a teacher recommendation.  Preference will be given to students entering the field of education.



 

Miamisburg High School Swimming & Diving Scholarship

Scholarships will be given to one female and one male graduating senior accepted at a college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.50.  Applicant must be a member of the MHS Swimming & Diving Team in good standing for at least 2 years.  Applicant will exhibit leadership qualities, character, pride, hard work and drive for success.

Miamisburg Rotary / H.V. Bear Memorial Award

A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating MHS senior accepted by a college with a minimum GPA of 2.50.  Applicant must be a Rotary Interact Club member in good standing.  Must be involved in school and/or community service.
 

Miamisburg Rotary / Glenn C. Brandon Memorial Award

A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating MHS senior accepted by a college with a minimum GPA of 2.50.  Applicant must be a Rotary Interact Club member in good standing.  Must be involved in school and/or community service.

 
This scholarship will be awarded to a MHS student that has participated in Wee Vikes.  Applications must include an essay on how participation in this program has helped you.

 

Michelle McKinney Memorial-Future Medical Careers Award

A scholarship will be presented to a MHS senior who will pursue a medical career.
 

Mound School PTO

Scholarships will be presented to selected MHS senior students who formerly attended Mound School.  Must have attended Mound School at least 3 years and have plans to continue their education in the fall.

National Honor Society

Scholarships will be awarded to deserving students who are members of MHS National Honor Society in good standing.  Leadership and academics will be a consideration.

ORRRC Turkey Trot Award

One male and one female will be selected.  Applicants must participate in track or cross country.  A separate application, available in the Guidance Office, is used for this scholarship.
 

 
Must have attended Miamisburg City Schools for 6-8th grades.

Bauer School PTO

Scholarships will be presented to selected MHS
senior students who formerly attended Bauer School.  



 

Lisette Lorenzen Jackson Memorial Award Class of 1977

A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating MHS senior planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university.  Should have a GPA of 1.8 to 2.8. Preference will be given to students with a disability.
 

Kinder School Staff Award

Scholarships will be presented to MHS students who formerly attended Kinder Elementary School and plan to continue their education after graduation.  A separate application, available in Guidance, must be used for this scholarship.

MHS Boys' Soccer Booster Award

Graduating MHS senior accepted to a two- or four-year post-secondary institution; member of boys' soccer program for at least two years; minimum 2.5 GPA through second quarter of senior year; demonstrates the five core values established for all boys' soccer participants. A separate application, available in Guidance, must be used for this scholarship.
