Principal’s Note
As third quarter grade time comes around, I want to let every parent at Neff know how much the staff and I appreciate the hard work that you do at home in preparing our students for the Ohio Achievement Test. The students have been working diligently the entire year, and the teachers have been preparing the students in every way imaginable to help students feel successful in the upcoming weeks. The entire staff is working on utilizing our last 10 school days to review any and all necessary state standards prior to the test dates.
Here is Neff’s testing schedule:
Monday, April 28th – Reading
Wednesday, April 30th – Math
Click on this link for a look at two different layouts of the formulas 6th graders need to know for the OAT Math Test.
Your PTO and I have organized 2 attendance incentives for our students for testing. All students who have perfect attendance from April 7th through May 2nd will receive a one-day pool pass to Miamisburg Aquatic Center! All students who have perfect attendance on our two testing days will receive an ice cream social!
If you wish to review questions with your children at home, you are more than welcome! Simply go to the Ohio Department of Education website at www.ode.state.oh.us/ On this website, you will find many practice materials as well as old test versions for 6th graders. Please don’t forget that all Neff students who have access to the internet at home can also go to www.studyisland.com to get practice in reading and math skills as well. Students only need to have their passwords with them to gain access to the site.
Keys to success during Ohio Achievement testing:
Don’t skip breakfast! Make sure to eat a nutritional breakfast every morning.
Don’t skip meals! Eating 3 well-balanced meals each day helps all of your body systems.
Drink plenty of water! Water helps your brain! Drinking plenty of water helps the synapses in your brain work more quickly.
Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night!
Help your student review. Ask to see what they reviewed that day in school and help them to be more prepared.
Remind students to check their work. Most students find that they have plenty of time to finish the test and have time to review all answers. Reminding them to check their work may help them to find a careless error.
Listen to your child. Often, simply listening to children will help to alleviate some of the stress that they are going through.
Attendance. Make sure your child arrives on time to school everyday. If students do not arrive on time, they will not be able to take the assigned test on that day. Students will still take all portions of the test; they will just take them on one of the assigned make-up days. If a student should arrive to school late, they will sign in as usual but then report to the Library.
Plan a fun activity for the family to do the Friday after the tests.
Good luck to all of our students! Remember to relax, take your time, answer in complete sentences and check your answers!

Gum reminder
Neff’s Code of Conduct clearly states our policy on gum. The careless disposal of gum this year (i.e. on our sidewalks, under handrails and desks) has added to the workload of our custodial staff that prides themselves in having one of the cleanest buildings in the District. Please encourage your child not to chew gum while at school.
