APRIL 2008
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

By: Mrs. Lee Marker
It is hard to believe that we are already starting the fourth quarter of the school year. This quarter is usually an exciting quarter with honors events, DARE graduation, special field trips and many more exciting activities. I encourage all students to finish the year on a positive note.  You will also note that teachers have higher expectations at this time of the year and that they are working to transition students to the next grade level. Our fifth graders have already started the process of transitioning to the Neff Campus by being introduced to the band program this past week. In mid May, the fifth grade students will take a tour of the Neff Campus.

Fourth quarter is always a tough quarter as the information that is covered is new and many of the skills require higher level thinking. Our third quarter honors assemblies will take place on Friday, May 2nd in the Bauer gym with grades 2nd and 3rd at 2:15 pm and 4th and 5th at 1:15 pm. (The younger grade level at each assembly will be honored first followed by the younger students.) We hope you will join us for this special event. This is also a wonderful time to capture pictures; feel free to bring the camera along.

I am very proud of the students who in the month of March practiced a fire drill and took part in the state wide tornado drill.  We will have a spring lock down drill (preparation in the event of an intruder) and we will practice an evacuation drill allowing us to escort the students off property and account for them in a timely manner. As usual we are always looking at safety in our school and ask that all visitors sign in regularly at the office upon entering the school. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

As the year comes to a close please remember that the Bauer staff work very hard when placing students in a classroom for next year. Careful consideration is taken to match student academic and social needs with teaching styles and philosophies. Feel free to express in writing the educational concerns which should be taken into account when placing your child in a homeroom for next year. This must be completed by April 30th on the form, which may be obtained from the office.

Counselors Corner
By Beth Myers
This month at Bauer, we will be finishing up our guidance lessons on the importance of “Responsibility”, and will begin a new lesson on the topic of “Fairness” and “Equality”.

As we welcome spring, Bauer also welcomes and encourages our students to exhibit fair, accepting and caring behavior in all situations.  All grade levels will be involved in activities and discussions related to “lifting” others up instead of “putting” other down.  We will be focusing on the power of our words and actions and the impact our choices have on others.
