FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

June 8, 2009

It is hard to believe that we have ended another great school year. It seems as if just yesterday we were welcoming the students to school as our buses rolled in on the first day. Even though the winds of September tried to slow our pace, the 2008-2009 school year was a very successful year in Miamisburg.

We were again honored to have earned an “Excellent” rating from the State of Ohio Department of Education. We could not have achieved this rating without the dedication and support of all of our staff members, our parents, and our students in the district. In addition to our “Excellent” rating, we are excited to continue our new facility building projects in the district. We have completed our new Maddux-Lang Primary School and have begun the construction of our new elementary school on Wood Road and our new middle school on Miamisburg-Springboro Pike. We have also begun the first phase of our H.S. additions and renovations. This is indeed an exciting time for our community as we embark for future educational years. Please pardon our dust as we continue to “Build on Our Success”.

This spring has also brought about some changes in our administrative roles in the district. We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Jill Patrick as our new Mark Twain Elementary School principal. Mrs. Patrick is coming to us from her position of assistant elementary principal at Fairborn City Schools. We also want to welcome Mrs. Stacie Moore who will be our new High School assistant principal. Mrs. Moore joins us from Bellbrook City Schools. Both Mrs. Patrick and Mrs. Moore bring with them a diverse and well established background in education that will enhance our district. In addition to these new hires, we have made some internal administrative changes as well. Kinder Elementary School will welcome Mr. Dale Geyer, currently the principal at Neff Elementary, as its new principal. Mr. Geyer will be a tremendous asset to the Kinder students, parents, and staff as we continue our planning of our downtown building project. Mr. Geyer has been at the downtown campus through his tenure in Miamisburg and has developed wonderful rapport with the downtown community. His administrative leadership will be invaluable as we work through the building process.

In addition, Mr. Erin Wheat, currently the principal at Wantz, and Mrs. Lynn Cowell, the assistant principal at Wantz, will head the administrative team at Wantz and Neff. Their leadership skills will be utilized as we begin the transition of our future 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and our combined staff to our new middle school. This administrative change will provide opportunities for Mr. Wheat and Mrs. Cowell to work with the staff and students at both buildings. We have many things to be proud of and thankful for in Miamisburg. Thank you for making Miamisburg City Schools an “Excellent” District and an exceptional place to live and learn. Without the support of our community, our school district would not be the excellent district that it is today. Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Dr. Dallas Jackson
